Five Steps for Success
In Leading Teams: Setting the Stage for Great Performances, J. Richard Hackman gives five conditions necessary for successful team development: The team must be a real team; it has compelling direction; it has an enabling structure; it operates within a supportive organizational context; and it has expert coaching. This is how The Performance Project meets those conditions:
1. Be a Real Team
Real teams have common objectives and members assume specific roles and responsibilities to help their team meet those objectives. Without these, people are a working group, not a real team.
2. A Compelling Direction
Teams learn to establish a defined strategy developed from support by input and accountability from all members.
3. An Enabling Structure
Teams employ essential steps to become effective. These are structured steps, developed from more than three years of working with hundreds of people on virtual or face-to-face teams.
4. Supportive Organizational Content
The program is performance focused. Members are accountable to the team. Strategies and tactics are revised as needed. Successes are celebrated; setbacks are assessed. Setback are assessed; successes are celebrated.
5. Expert Coaching
Guided by a Certified Kolbe Consultant, team members learn how their natural talents best assist the team in moving through the stages of team development.
